National network status

Kentel is at advanced stages of the formation with a fully operational board and an operation secretariat. But need to formalize the network as well as opening for it an independent bank account in order to establish a complete image.

Rwanda Telecenrte Network should ensure that a secretariat is created that is accountable and that which can be contacted for the networks programs and relationships in the region. The most important thing is to have a home to house the secretariat.

Tanzania Telecentre Network – is still at board level with a secretariat, we need at least two people at the secretariat to ensure that there is more than one person who can be contact for activities of the network. However the network already has a home to the secretariat.

Burundi Community Telecentre Network – there is a board but there is need to contact person at the secretariat, which is already housed.

Coordination is important between the structures to ensure that there is linkage at national, regional and international level. This may be online.

There is considerable uniqueness between the network structures but all networks should work on operationalizing the structures and doing the work we say we are doing.

Rwanda Telecentre Network: The signatories to Rwanda Telecentre Network are committed elsewhere as they have people working with Private Sector Foundation , RITA who were included for advocacy purposes. Their busy scheduled has made it difficult for the board to meet

Advice to RTN

‘Good leadership should be able to identify when things go wrong, change strategies and move on,” Sulah

As a way forward, RTN needs to change the course of action. Change strategies, get RTN registered in the next three months and open an account. RTN committed to have all this done by March 2008 when they host the first national TLF. The board should be update but not take decisions on the nut and bolts

ADVICE to KenTel: register as a non profit company limited by guarantee as its faster and takes a shorter time

Advice to BCTN: Integrate the telecentres call centers into the network
