EATLF in Garadef City to start on 8th June 2008
This event is not to miss !!!! The East African Telecentre Leaders Forum is due to take place from 8th to 10th May of 2008. With more than 20 international representatives, its expected to be one of the legendary EATLF events ever hosted. Expected participants include policy makers, researchers, and telecentre practitioners from different countries.
Organized by UgaBYTES in conjuction with GDCO supported by Telecentre.org and IDRC its expected to be an event that will strategically mark the birth of the East African Telecentre Academy.
The event will also have side-by-side exhibition of Telecentre work, new technology and regional service providers’ products. The Sudan Telecentre Network is expected to be launched in the event.
Brain storming on the implementation of the academy will be one key issue to discuss:- where will the academy be, whom will it address, how will it certify, who should be contacted and when should it be opened? are among the things to be discussed in detail. On the agenda are also things like:-
The Bytes for Development award
As part of the knowledge sharing session there will be the introduction and discussion of the Bytes for Development award. The award is an incentive for practitioners who share good and useful stories, focused telecentre research cases and trainers of Web 2.0 tools to telecentre practitioners.
Regional telecentre Staff exchange programme
How can telecentres take advantage of the staff exchange programme to
improve performance. What are the most critical areas that need to be
addressed? Who can be connected to who? And what kind of support is needed
from networks.
Social enterprise
As a follow up to the social enterprise skills building session facilitated
by NESsT during the fourth EATLF in Kampala Uganda, this session will help
us learn the success stories. Are there any telecentres effectively engaged
in social enterprise?
Telecentre Networks in the East Africa region have come up with a regional
social enterprise team. How will they help telecentres?
National networks enhancement:
The session will examine issues concerning; Network funding and sustainability, practitioner and networks' capacity building, promotion of CMC for rural development and enhancing e-business in telecentres. Strengthening the EA-TLF;
Fundraising for EA-TLF; Ways, means and approaches to source funds for an inclusive EATLF. How marketing of the event; locally, regionally nationally and internationally - the role of the media. Identification of the next host country and setting the core strategy.
Exhibition
The forum will have an information point; where all participating organizations will display their showcases, information leaflets and materials. This point will be kept accessible throughout the forums period. Companies engaged in the ICT4D domain are encouraged to participate. Telecentres with items for exhibition are encouraged to participate.
Follow up of the previous finalised e- confrence on the academy, will act as a concrete ground for the discussion.
